Due to continued expansion at Awaken IT, we have an exciting opening for an enthusiastic and skilled Infrastructure Engineer to join our team. Awaken IT is a leading provider of IT hardware, support and services to businesses across the UK, and we are now looking for a talented and experienced IT engineer to join our team on a permanent basis. Your role will be flexibly home-based providing regular, onsite and remote support to one of our key UK customers, with occasional project work requiring an overnight stay further afield. As their main technical contact and lead on a daily basis, your role will also involve closely liaising with the Blue Box Group Remote Support Team, Group Technical and Solution Leads and management,  to ensure that our we continue to provide a first class level of support and overall customer relationship management.

This is an autonomous, strategic role which will require you to be responsible for the ongoing management of critical systems for our client, ensuring everything is working at an optimal level.  In addition, your focus on strategic development and ongoing improvement will provide opportunities for strategic customer engagement, and future project management, with particular focus around the introduction of and migration to cloud technologies.

Being an excellent, confident communicator is also key to this role as it will involve wide ranging engagement with board level and senior management teams whilst performing your day-to-day duties, whilst be supported on an ongoing basis by senior management.

The role:-

• Support and maintain both on-premise and cloud IT infrastructure to ensure maximum up-time, including monitoring server/network performance and security systems.
• Acting as the key relationship contact for our customer, ensuring that all help desk enquiries are responded to and assisting with the management of all user requests, via proactive engagement with your remote support team members.
• Provide technical expertise and assist in the day to day management of the technical structure of the business through engagement with the clients’ IT team.
• Review and propose ongoing opportunities for improvement
• Project manage and implement changes to the IT infrastructure across the customers’ business interests.
• Coordinate and work with third party IT service suppliers as and when required.

Required Knowledge and Experience:-

• Experience of managing the infrastructure of a multi-site or multi company operation.
• Very strong understanding and demonstrable practical experience of server technology and hardware, including virtualisation (Hyper-V or VMware), Microsoft and Linux Operating Systems.
• Strong understanding and practical experience of implementing/administering Microsoft Azure solutions
• Strong understanding of AD, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP.
• Experience of implementing and ongoing management of wired/wireless networks including TCP/IP, routing, switching, firewalls, VLANs.
• Practical experience of leading a technical team to deliver on a variety of IT infrastructure projects or ongoing support requirements.
• Excellent practical and problem solving skills.

Desirable Knowledge and Experience:-

• Exposure and experience of Amazon Web Services
• Container Technology, i.e Docker
• CISCO qualifications in relation to routing / switches / firewall
• Fortigate Firewalls and management / administration

Minimum Experience:-

• Infrastructure Engineer role – 3 years
• Microsoft Azure – 2 years
• Server/Network Administration – 3 years
